Hello,
Thank you for your help. I'm trying to analyze several DV/IPV questions (d103a, d104, d105a, d105k) for the 2021 Madagascar DHS survey (MDIR81FL) and the 2017-2018 Benin DHS survey (BJIR71FL). Using R software and creating a table of any of those questions by cervical cancer awareness (s1423, s1323), it returns a table with 0 in each category. However, when I create a separate table with DV/IPV questions only or cancer questions only, it returns a table showing that these questions are being asked.
Is it possible to analyze/sort s1423 and s1323 by d103-105 variables? Or were they asked to different respondents and that's why there is trouble linking them? I didn't have this trouble before with other variables, so I'm struggling as to why my table is continually blank.

Following is a response from DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:
Unfortunately, the two sets of questions were asked in different subsamples. If you enter "tab v042 v044" you will see that there was no overlap in the subsample for the DV module and the subsample for hemoglobin testing (which included many other variables besides hemoglobin). This kind of design is found in many DHS surveys. The intention is to reduce the length of the interview and the burden on the respondents, but it means that certain combinations of variables cannot be analyzed together. There's really no way to get around it.
