Merging BR to PR in NFHS-1 and NFHS-2 [message #28434]

Hello,

I am attempting to merge the BR, as well as KR, file onto the PR file for NFHS-1 and NFHS-2. For later rounds, I was able to use the line number of the child in the household to achieve this. However, it seems like the data for NFHS-1 and NFHS-2 does not include the line number of the child as a variable in the KR and BR files. Is it possible to do this merge? If so, could you please point me towards the variables I could use for this merge?

Following is a response from Senior DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:

Unfortunately, there is no reliable way to merge the KR/BR files with the PR file when b16 is missing. We have tried some elaborate methods to do this, but they cannot be guaranteed to work, mainly because of occasional age discrepancies in the two files and because there can be multiple children in the same household with the same age and sex, especially when there are multiple mothers in the same household.
