Dear DHS team,

I was analyzing DHS data on foods and liquids consumed by children. I have DHS data from 8 countries (Benin, Cameroon, Cote d'Ivorie, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Nigeria and Uganda). I had question regarding data on 2 variables

v412a: Gave child fortified baby food (cerelac, etc)

v414s: Gave child other solid, semi-solid food

Is there any information on the ingredients of these two food items? Any information on the ingredients will help us better classify the food item into a particular group.

Warm regards
Mahir

Following is a response from DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:

We do not have any further information about the ingredients. I would suggest that you look at the local translation of the terms but I think they are also generic. For v412a, you could look for marketing information about which brands of baby foods are distributed in the countries. Note that v414s is a residual category, after going through a list of very specific foods, and it usually has only a few responses. Sorry we can't be more helpful. Users from the specific countries may have suggestions.
