Can someone assist me in identifying the variable name for 'District' in the Tanzania DHS dataset (1996 to 2022)? Although the questionnaire suggests that this information was collected during the interview, I am unable to locate it in the raw DHS data. IPSUM provides a district code, but unfortunately, it lacks specific details about the district names.

Following is a response from DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:

In order to find this variable, I would open the PR file (or any other file) in Stata and enter "lookfor district". Sometimes other keywords help, such as "place", "province", "county", etc. You can do that yourself. I think every statistical package has a similar search command.

Sometimes the second administrative level is NOT in the data files, or is included but without names (without a variable label). When the names are missing from the data files, we generally do not have them in any form.
