Hello,
As I submitted my paper on one of the journals, it asked me the following information. Can you provide those information for (1) Indonesia 2017, (2) Philippines 2017, Timor-Leste 2016, and Papua New Guinea 2016-2018?

(1) Give the name of the institutional review board or ethics committee that approved the study
(2) Include the approval number and/or a statement indicating approval of this research
(3) Indicate the form of consent obtained (written/oral) or the reason that consent was not obtained

Thank you so much, and I look forward to receiving those documents.

Sincerely
w

Following is a response from DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:

Users of DHS data sets are generally advised to get approval from their institution's own IRB. DHS surveys have no personal identifiers and have been anonymized in terms of individuals, households, and clusters. Such secondary data is generally considered "exempt", which means that the IRB approval is expedited and virtually automatic. It is supposed to be obtained before you begin the analysis, but it is possible that your IRB will give retroactive approval that will satisfy the journal. However, we will contact you outside of the forum regarding these specific surveys.
