Hello,

Is there any survey, anywhere, anytime, that directed the treatment-seeking questions (and/or the malaria module) to children not only under 59 months of age, but also over 59 months (i.e., children 5-10 years of age for example)?
Thank you,

Thom

Following is a response from DHS Lead Malaria Research Analyst, Cameron Taylor:

Dear user,
Thank you for your question. To my knowledge there hasn't been a case where we have expanded the age bracket for the care seeking questions in the women's questionnaire to older age ranges. However, there are some country specific examples that might be of help. Liberia 2011, Liberia 2016, Mozambique 2018, Nigeria 2010, and Nigeria 2015 all asked fever questions as part of the household questionnaire. The household head was asked "In the last X weeks has (NAME) been sick with a fever at any time" about each household member. Some of the surveys then asked follow-up questions about treatment seeking and cost of treatment seeking. I currently have a paper in production looking at the reliability of reported fever among household members which is doing a deep dive on this data. The preliminary findings are that there is a strong collective memory of fever within a household with both the household head and the mother stating similar symptoms.

Hope this helps, let me know if you have any additional questions.

Thank you very much for your answer, Cameron. I'll check the surveys you mentioned.
