Hello,

I am using the NFHS-5 data and wanted more information about the glucose variable, SB74. The codebook states that the maximum value for this variable is 499 (mg/dl) +. Is this the maximum reading for the glucometer? If so, can you confirm if participants who had a reading of 499mg/dl are included in the analysis?

Thank you.

In NFHS-5, the Accu-Chek Performa glucometer was used measuring blood glucose. The glucometer displays results from 20-500 mg/dL. A blood glucose referral form is given to the respondent if the random blood glucose level is >200 mg/dL. The health investigator who tests the glucose level records the glucose level from the glucometer directly on the Biomarker Questionnaire. Respondent who had a glucose level of 499 mg/dL are included in the analysis, although a glucose level that high should be extremely rare. Note that not every eligible respondent had their glucose tested. Those that were not tested were coded on the questionnaire as 985 if they refused the test, code 996 for "other," and code 998 for not tested.
