I am not sure why the figures I have are different from those on the DHS report.

For instance, the MIDX$1 shows me that 21792 women had births in the five year preceding the survey, however, the report on antenatal care shows that 21,911 had births in the last 5 years. I am assuming only women who had births needed antenatal care. What am I doing wrong?

Following is a response from DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:

We apologize for the delay in this response, due to travel. It appears that you are using the IR file, in which bidx_1 is the most recent birth. I recommend that you use the KR file, which has one record for each birth in the past five years.

If this does not answer your question, please say specifically which table you are trying to match. Also note that all numbers in the tables, including frequencies, are weighted by v005.

Good day,

Thank you for the response.

Please, I wish to know if it the same procedure applies to family planning and antenatal care because I am not getting the same result as those published in the report.

I anticipate your usual response.

Once again, thank you very much.

Kind regards,
Omotayo

Yes, for all variables in the IR file that are indexed with subscripts _1, _2,...., _6, it will be easier if you use the KR file, in which these are separate cases with bidx=1 through 6. Let us know the table number if you are having trouble matching some specific indicator.
