Hi, I'm looking at MCPR trends in various African countries and wanted to check with you about the trends in Mozambique. It looks like MCPR among All women has declined from 21.6 in 2003 to 12.1 in 2011. The majority of this decrease is in LAM (which fell from 7.4 in 2003 to .1 in 2011) and I wanted to check and see if this was thought to be a true decrease in LAM or if it might be the result of a change in definition? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Emily

The LAM estimate for 2003 is clearly problematic. In the 2003 report, LAM was excluded as a modern method, and I would probably do the same. We don't have an explanation of the reason for the high estimate of LAM in 2003, but my guess is that it was confused with just breastfeeding in many cases. The question text looks ok, but the understanding of the term by the interviewers may not have been accurate. But that's just a guess.
