Dear All,

Please I will like to know how to generate men's body mass index (BMI) reported in the Lesotho 2009 report (Table 11.10.02, page 152). The variable for women BMI is v445, however there is no corresponding mv445 for men, but men BMI was tabulated in the report.

Regards, FP

Dear User,
Body mass index (BMI), or Quetelet's index, for the respondent is defined as his/her weight in kilograms divided by the square of his/her height in meters (W/H2). There are two implied decimal place in the BMI (decimal points are not included in the data file). To produce the BMI divide by 100.

You may also find some guidance by looking at the Guide to DHS Statistics. http://www.measuredhs.com/pubs/pdf/DHSG1/Guide_to_DHS_Statis tics_29Oct2012_DHSG1.pdf. The publication is bookmarked and the Standard Recode Manual http://www.measuredhs.com/pubs/pdf/DHSG4/Recode6_DHS_22March 2013_DHSG4.pdf
