Dear DHS-team,

I'm currently working on DHS datasets from Kenya, Ghana and Uganda. Part of my work requires to identify interethnic marriages. However, to be able to make comparisons across, within a country, I need the ethnic classification to be stable.
However, the ethnic classification changes slightly between studies, and I would like to know how people that belong to "new" ethnic groups in a given survey were coded in the previous survey.
To make my question clearer, I can give you an example. DHS II in Kenya does not consider Masai as an ethnic group but DHS III does. I would like to know how people who answered "Masai" as their ethnic group in DHS II were classified. (Do they belong to the "other" category, or were they coded into another ("broader") ethnic group?)
I cannot find any information on these country-specific (re)coding issue, so I wondered whether you could help me to find the pieces of information I need to carry out the analysis.

Best regards,
Juliette Crespin-Boucaud
