Hi,

I am using Children Recode file of Bangladesh DHS 2004 for one of my projects. Is V022 the strata variable in this data set? I will really appreciate your clarifications.

Following is a response from Senior DHS Stata Specialist, Tom Pullum:

In the 2004 Bangladesh survey (BD4J) the strata are given by the combinations of v024 and v025 (producing 12 strata). v022 is NOT the stratum variable, and v023 is empty. You have to construct the stratum variable, with a command such as this (in Stata): "egen stratum=group(v024 v025)". Sorry, but several surveys from that time are incorrect in this regard.
